Lucian of Antioch

Lucian of Antioch
(c. 240–312)
   Educator, Saint and Martyr.
Lucian was a native of Samosata and served as a presbyter in Antioch. He became head of the theological school at Antioch and his students included arius and eusebius of nicomedia. He seems to have taught that although Christ was preexistent, he did not exist from all eternity.
Thus Lucian has been described as the father of Arianism. He was opposed to the allegorical interpretation of the Bible and he produced an important text of the Scriptures, known as the Lucian version. He died a martyr’s death in Nicomedia.
